Yesterday we took a trip to St. Louis to the orthopedic specialist. He took new x-rays of his collarbone. The x-rays look awful. The bone is broken in different places. He really did a number on it.
There are different ways to approach this, according to the doc. At this time, we are choosing to allow it to heal without surgery. If that occurs, he will still have a bump that is odd on his shoulder, but will have range of motion with the shoulder. Surgery would eliminate the bump, but he would have a rod and screws in place then.
If it doesn't heal, surgery is still an option. I don't know the correct answer. If Nick remains in pain for an unreasonable amount of time, we will re-assess things.

Oh no, poor Nick, that looks really awful!!! My husband got screws in his arm when he broke it and he's had a full range of motion, but it was the bottom half of the arm and not as important as the collarbone....

Wonderful product. (I wish I'd known about it when I broke my elbow a few years ago!)
So sorry he needs to even think about these things!
